Maxie's senior portrait session on Roosevelt Row was absolutely incredible! Maxie isn't just any senior; he's also a photographer. He knows how to work the camera, both in front of and behind it.

We started the sesh with Maxie showing up in the first of two fantastic outfits. Each one was on point. First, he had this casual, red polo and relaxed denims look that was effortlessly stylish. Then he switched it up with a crisp brown shirt and edgy black jeans.Every look was a total hit. LOVE IT!

Roosevelt Row is the perfect spot for photos. The murals, vibrant colors, and artsy atmosphere make it an ideal backdrop. And Maxie nailed every pose. Honestly, it was like he’d been modeling forever. 📸

One of my favorite moments was when we checked out the 1 1/2 Street Mural alley behind The Churchill. Maxie stood in front of it, and hopped up on a nearby set of mailboxes to hit all the angle. The contrast was just perfect. His posing was spot on, and we captured some stunning shots. It was like the mural was made for him. The energy of Roosevelt Row matched Maxie's personality so well – friendly, confident, and just cool.

The best part of the session was the laughter and fun we had. At one point, some curious passerbys decided to join our shoot. Why do people always ask “Are you taking photos?” Maxie took it all in stride, laughing and making the best of every moment. It’s those unexpected moments that make the shoot so unique. City Life! It isn’t just about the photos; it’s about the experience.

Maxie told me about his love for photography and it really shone through when he described some real estate work he was part of. He’s been taking photos for himself and his school, and you can tell he’s got an eye for it. His passion is contagious, and it made the session even more enjoyable. Seeing him so engaged and excited was truly inspiring.

We ended the day with some golden hour shots on top of the 1st street garage, and the lighting was perfect. That glow was everything. Maxie looked absolutely radiant, and the photos captured that dreamy, warm light beautifully. It was the perfect way to wrap up an amazing session.

Maxie, you are a star! Your senior session was one for the books. Keep being awesome and chasing your dreams. Your talent and passion for photography are going to take you far, and I can’t wait to see what you do next.

OMG, you guys, I had the most amazing time shooting senior portraits for Ethan and Isabella! These Perry High School Class of 2022 grads chose the “two-hour Action package” and let me tell you, it was action-packed! 🎉

We kicked things off on top of the world, literally. The rooftop of the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Phoenix gave us the most incredible views. Ethan and Isabella started in their sharp formal wear, looking absolutely dapper. Ethan rocked a suit, and Isabella was stunning in her dress. Love it!

As we moved through downtown, their personalities started to shine. The outfits changed, and so did the vibes. We strolled past the Orpheum, which was just epic. The historic architecture combined with these two looking all stylish was a whole vibe. And those tall buildings surrounded by palm trees? Perfect backdrop!

The twins were so much fun to work with. They’ve got this great sibling dynamic that’s both hilarious and heartwarming. Ethan’s got this cool, laid-back style, while Isabella is all about that chic, trendy look. Together, they made every shot a masterpiece. 📸

We had some seriously funny moments. At one point, I told Ethan to give Isabella a piggy back ride. Isabella’s reaction was priceless, and Ethan couldn’t stop laughing. It’s those unexpected moments that make these sessions so memorable.

Walking through uptown, we found some amazing spots. The mix of urban and natural elements was just perfect for capturing their senior year vibes. We even found this cute little café with the best mural. The colors popped so much, and it matched Isabella’s outfit perfectly. Talk about serendipity!

By the end of our session, we were all a bit tired but so happy with how everything turned out. The twins’ personalities and styles were captured perfectly, and we made some amazing memories along the way. Their senior portraits are more than just photos; they’re a celebration of who they are and all they’ve accomplished. 🎓

Michael Class of 2023 Sandra Day O’Connor High | Anjeanette Photography Phoenix Senior Photographer

Michael, a senior at Sandra Day O’Connor High, wanted his senior photos to reflect his dreams and personality. He chose the ASU Gammage Theatre area and Changing Hands Bookstore, two iconic places in Arizona that perfectly captured his unique vibe. The Gammage Theatre, with its distinctive architecture, offered an exceptional backdrop for his photos. Its bold lines and curves, designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, provided an artistic setting that highlighted Michael's individuality.

We started our session at the ASU Gammage Theatre. The structure is a marvel, with its sweeping lines and dramatic angles. It's a photographer’s dream, especially on a cloudy Arizona day. The light was overcast and diffused, giving everything a softfinish, but when I used my flash strobe there was a very cool and epic edge that balancing the light gave the darkly exposed sky.

Next, we moved to Changing Hands Bookstore. This place is a gem! It's not just a bookstore; it’s a haven for book lovers and a fantastic spot for cozy, intimate photos. Michael wanted his photos to show different facets of his life and interests. The bookstore provided a perfect setting for this. He looked right at home among the shelves, flipping through pages and lounging in the reading nooks. His outfit for this location was more relaxed and casual, perfect for a day spent in a warm, inviting atmosphere. This place brought out a different side of Michael, capturing his love for reading and learning.

Michael's involvement in the Eagle Pride Marching Band is a significant part of his high school experience. I first met him while working on the band's portraits as a Phoenix Team and Marching Band volume photographer. Seeing him in his element, surrounded by his bandmates, gave me a glimpse into his world. The dedication, hard work, and passion he showed were truly inspiring.

Taking photos at these two locations was not just about the backgrounds; it was about capturing Michael’s journey and dreams. The Gammage Theatre represented his aspirations and love for the arts, while Changing Hands Bookstore showed his intellectual curiosity and love for knowledge. Each photo session was a celebration of his achievements and a glimpse into his bright future. It was incredible to see how comfortable and natural he was in both settings, making the photos truly reflect who he is.

The weather was on our side that day, with the cloudy skies providing perfect lighting conditions. The natural light was soft and flattering, highlighting Michael’s features and adding depth to the photos. Despite the occasional challenges, like finding the right angle in low light to avoid unwanted shadows or dealing with curious onlookers, the session was a blast. Michael’s positive energy and willingness to experiment made the entire process enjoyable and rewarding.

Senior photos are more than just a milestone; they’re a way to capture a moment in time that reflects who you are and what you love. Michael’s choice of locations and his involvement in the process made his photos unique and personal. It’s important to choose places and themes that resonate with you, just like Michael did. Looking back at the photos from that day, I can’t help but smile. Each shot tells a story, from the dramatic lines of the Gammage Theatre to the cozy corners of Changing Hands Bookstore. They’re a testament to Michael’s journey through high school and his excitement for what lies ahead. Michael, you truly shone in front of the camera, and it was an honor to capture these moments for you.

It was a dark and stormy Sunday…well not exactly but it WAS overcast, winter rain was threatening, and it was cloudy as all get out. Do people still say that? Thing is - I hate cloudy days! Clouds are a favorite of many photographers with their ‘giant softbox’ ‘saturated colors’ and blah blah blah, but not for me. I didn’t move to Arizona to see no clouds! As a professional you gotta be ready for anything, and able to make any condition work. So I prefer the golden hour backlit glow. USUALLY that is. This session was so dramatic and epic I almost change my mind about cloudy days!

Thomas’ easy, relaxed smile and fun loving personality make any day light up- aw! He is a cute kid! A member of the Class of 2024, he holds the distinguished role of Drum Major in the Eagle Pride Marching Band with a dedication to music and leadership shines through in every frame of his senior pictures. As an Arizona native, Thomas is no stranger to the desert heat, but with graduation on the horizon, he's eagerly anticipating the cooler temperatures and new adventures awaiting him at NAU.

Ethan Class of 2022 | Phoenix Senior Pictures

Ethan’s session was really fun, exploring the neat industrial area around ASU Grant Street Studios and doing his thing! It was pretty toasty so we kept out of the Arizona sun and in the shade with all of the old buildings, cool bricks and alleys, and mural work on buildings. I met Ethan a few years ago while taking photos for his marching band- and I even took his brother’s senior photos that year! It’s great to meet up again at a shoot just for him after meeting a few times at different shoots. Great job Ethan!

Nobody wants cheesy awkward photos for graduation- be like Ethan and be yourself. I actually kind of hate it when photographers or others say super vague statements like ‘just be yourself’ - so here what I mean: Wear what YOU want to wear. Yes, wear a photos mom wants or dad expects, but def bring a few YOU like, and feel comfortable in. Don’t force a smile, I will make you laugh either because of my top notch comic delivery (snort) or you know I may just say ‘laugh at me’ ha! A laugh relaxes you face, make the noise, nobody is watching but me and I am hidden behind the camera. No judgement zone for sure!! And when you laugh it lights up the whole face in a natural not stiff way. Bring music! We can listen to whatever you want, bring things you like do, Music, D&D, video games, sports equipment. Realize that much like a workout the first few minutes are a warm up, getting used to being in front of the camera. I want you to look cool as hell so I am not here trying to make a perfect (ly fake) picture!

The Best Friend Package is perfect for friends who want photos of themselves and their besties, share a video memory with a reel & a tik tok, and it evens up being half the price of a full Action Package session for each of them! It’s everything that a Action 2 hour package has to offer- shared with the person that was there as they grew up navigating the …interesting and sometimes challenging waters of high school!

I was going to include lyrics for a song with "Colors" in the title to match Sami's vibrancy and the retro cool & spalshy backdrop of the @saguarohotels #scottsdale but all I can think of is True Colors by Cyndi Lauper or Colors by Ice-T- and while those songs are kick-ass neither really seems to fit- what's YOUR favorite color song?

what an incredibly fun location- @wildlifeworldzoo Phoenix was beautiful. This guy though- such a ham! This gorgeous Reticulated Giraffe is like everybody’s little brother goofing off in the background of your photos. The second lady Gally is feeding is Jackie, and she is just about two years old!

The whole inspo behind her senior picture location- SHARKS! 🦈 And @wildlifeworldzoo had the perfect spot in their sea predator aquarium for epic senior shots!

It was warm as heck but my goodness the light loves this girl! Le was amazing glowing in 111 degrees, and effervescent in the glow of the June Arizona sunset! Le just graduated from Mesa High School with honors, and now is headed for adventures in Northern California where she is headed to college. So thankful we were able to meet up and capture some amazing senior pictures for an amazing young woman.

Ana Class of 21 | Phoenix Senior Pictures by Anjeanette Photography

I met this cool chick about four years ago right when I moved to Arizona my daughter joined her school and the Eagle Pride Band- Ana is vivacious and energetic- and always hilarious! A powerhouse of the brass section, Ana has marched in Drum Corps International with Phenom, The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade, and her soon-to-be high school alma mater Sandra Day O’Connor- one of the TOP marching bands in the state! Ana really rocked her session with awesome smiles and a too cool vibe- first stop thrifted fashion and The Grand coffee house on Central Ave!

Ana’s second location was the gorgeous Japanese Friendship Garden, a jewel in downtown Phoenix!

We ducked in and out of clouds and enjoyed being surround with the serenity of water and trees.

Ana is gorgeous along side the new cherry blossoms and pagodas- don’t worry - she knows :)

I knew Jared was a world-class percussionist, incredible marcher in band and battery performance, good looking, and my favorite- a super funny and lighthearted guy. What I totally didn’t expect was how cool and easy he made getting photos taken look. He switched gears from smiles to edgy expressions- he posed like a freaking model! Awesome work Jared!

Congrats to the Class of 2021 | Sandra Day O'Connor Eagle Pride Marching Band | Senior Banners!

Some of the seniors from the Eagle Pride band asked me to make their Senior Night Banners! Since my daughter graduated and all the craziness of the world befell us, I have missed seeing these young people and watching their program grow!! It was a super-secret night planned by their parents where their class is celebrated. I’m positive they had no idea why they came to my home studio for portraits right ;) Some parents make gorgeous, elaborate signs, so I am so honored that a group of parents asked me out for these 48”x36” vinyl poster for their students! I know how much this meant to me as a former EP parent to have one for my girl her last year in the program <3

I am just so glad they get to have their senior night after all the disappointments and events lost out on!! I pray for better healthier days for all of us and the very best for the class of 2021 as they tackle their new adventures!!!

My daughter has a very hectic schedule. No, we really are not one of those who overschedule kid's, not that there is anything wrong with being an active family. She has passions and drive all her own thank you and we support them. But behind every drawing, every book or math problem has always been music. When daily life stress overwhelms her, she soothes with music either dancing with her headphones or drawing to music. When she is elated-music! No surprise she plays like a thousand instruments.

And in between, she puts up with me taking thousands of photos and documenting her passion and life. We had fun playing with a projector last week! On the occasion of Oonagh’s birthday, for the very very very tentatively titled "Oonagh's favorite songs" project we have been working on off and on for over a year. This in no way encompasses all the music she loves…hopefully the project will continue on!

I could not locate album artwork artists.

A little about the images I photographed: For the B0RNS album, we built the cover design set with nothing but painted paper- even the white shirt is white lacey paper! Ok, ok the suit is fabric, and her hair obvs. Next for the remaining album or single track art homages, we used a projector, not Photoshop. I love PS, this just wasn’t how we got the album art up for this ;) Other tools used were strobe Flashpoint falshes, a triangle prism, plastic sheets and blue gel squares. Originally the idea to do this began from recent experiments with gel lighting, then later I looked it up and saw that there is so much truth to the saying "there is nothing new under the sun"- because it seems like everyone is getting some awesome artistic photography going with projectors recently!! Heck yeah! Don't worry about that, don't let the fact that there is nothing new that hasn't been done discourage you. Do it anyway, play with your art because it has never been done by YOU, and your voice like music is what unites us. SO, ANYWAY, I was checking out some Jake Hicks gel lighting tutorials on ProEDU (as recommended by David Byrd) ...and I saw a Jake Hicks projector mini tutorial. Then I started playing! I held up a piece of clear plastic for the ghosty white in two of these, and a prism for the one (bouncing it off the projector light because I was standing right next to it in that one- don't think it would work from another angle bc besides the strobe to light to light her face no light in the room) So you can totally get flare and prism and those effects really easily in PS and I do all the time, art is art! We were just playing and sometimes its fun to see what can happen “in real life” I tried a projector that was basically my phone in a fancy cardboard box and it did NOT get great results. We used an Epson digital for this that I borrowed from my husband's studio. The colour was fantastic! I ran into issues Jake mentions like chromatic abrasion on wall image (esp with BW lines etc) and the ‘screen door effect’ where you see pixels so I pushed the projector as close to her as possible and unsharpened (blurred) the focus a tiny bit and that helps. I would love to try with a film slide projector! I still have slides of my old work!! One part I love less but is basically a PART you cant control is shadows- so she def is going to cast a shadow duh hahahh! I didn’t want just straight ahead perspectives however so ya gotta live with those. A few others I used a second gelled strobe and that was really great. Sooooo much angling so that the strobe doesn’t wash out the projection! We got clear mod heels and the white painter coverall from Amazon.
